will be hosting a
Permaculture Educators' Course including Transition Initiatives
June 11th - 18th 2010
During
eight interactive and information-filled days in June, we will be
offering a course to enhance your skills in teaching Permaculture and to add new information to your curriculum. Permaculture and Transition Initiatives offer key solutions to the environmental, economic and social challenges facing human occupation of the planet.
The course is suitable for anyone teaching, or interested in teaching Permaculture - experience welcome but not essential.
Objectives
- To present tools, ideas and methodologies to boost your teaching and curriculum design.
- To bring together European Permaculture educators to exchange ideas about teaching methods and content.
- To create a support and communication network within Europe.
- To provide an intensive course on Transition Initiatives -
including case studies to extend Permaculture Design Courses beyond the
backyard and into the community.
- To discuss how Permaculture education can adapt to the evolving environmental situation.
The program will include:
- How to present using a variety of teaching methods
- Using icebreakers and energizers to keep interest
- Teaching Introduction to Permaculture and other short courses
- Incorporating tours and practical sessions - we will try it ourselves at Friland
- Full day fieldtrip to an organic educational facility
- How to design a Permaculture Design Certificate course
- Non-theoretical components of PDCs.
- Transition Initiatives - how to teach it and how to introduce it to a community
The course will be facilitated to ensure active participation,
demonstration of a diversity of teaching styles and breathing space for
networking and informal discussions.
Materials and references will be provided pre-course to ensure that participants arrive with a similar level of knowledge.
Post-course notes and a resource list will be provided.
Full program available on request
The
course will be led by permaculture design teacher Annemarie Brookman of
'The Food Forest' (referred to by David Holmgren as “One of the most
inspiring permaculture places in Australia”). See www.foodforest.com.au
Annemarie
has organised and taught Permaculture Design Certificate courses
annually at The Food Forest since 1996 and is also involved in the
running of short courses on a wide range of sustainable living topics
such as Growing Organic Vegetables, Fruits & Nuts and Building with
Strawbales. In addition she also hosts school tours for all year levels
at The Food Forest. Annemarie did her first
permaculture design course in 1983 with Bill Mollison and attended a
second PDC in 1992 with David Holmgren; she is qualified in teaching, permaculture, art and craft.
Annemarie will be joined by an experienced Transition Initiatives trainer.
